Computers in the Workplace

 Greetings Broders!

After spending over ten years in the amusement/theme park industry, I understand how computers and their evolution play a substantial role in operations. They are used for ticketing, roller coasters, retail sales, and food sales, to name a few. In the past, with ticketing, for example, everything was done mostly on paper. Paper tickets would be printed by a third party and subsequently redeemed at the entrance. Now, tickets can be purchased online and scanned from any device. As computer hardware, operating systems, and networking evolve, I can predict a few impacts on the amusement industry. First, there will likely be a way for roller coaster computers to connect to maintenance devices. This will alert maintenance of any malfunctions directly. Currently, ride employees must alert their leadership and then wait for maintenance to respond. It then takes time for the team to uncover the underlying issue. This causes significant ride downtime, upsets guests, and displaces employees for an unknown time. If the ride were communicated directly, the maintenance teams could come prepared to fix the issue and get the ride back up and running smoothly. Another prediction is that there will be less downtime on a website, which may occur when the site is overloaded with users trying to make transactions simultaneously. Lastly, there will be better ways to connect to the internet with Wi-Fi. This will be better connectivity for both employees and guests. People density affects the signal, and it experiences occasional downtime preventing admissions teams from scanning tickets. There are many ways, as information technology and science improve, there will be significant benefits for amusement industry operations.

Happy Coding!
